Shops

Carrelages du Marais: another cement tile shop in Brussels. Smaller than Emery & Cie and with a singnificantly smaller selection of products. We tried to order unicolour tiles here as well, but the colour they delivered was not identical to the one in the showroom. Slow process, not very friendly owner, not a pleasant experience overall.

Emery & Cie: amazing selection of cement tiles, zelliges, decoration items, handles, lamps etc. They've moved shops since I last visited them, but their old shop was like an enchanted castle, I loved it! We bought zelliges (hand-made Moroccan tiles) from them for our bathroom and some unicolour cement tiles to go around a pattern in our kitchen. Both ended up being a different colour than what we had expected (and what was exposed in the show room). The zelliges we decided to keep nevertheless, but we couldn't be flexible about the unicolour tiles as they didnt match the pattern we had already. I would recommend this company, but keep in mind that there are always surprises, so its not suited if you are looking for a really specific colour.

Le courant qui passe (Fancy smancy lamp shop on Chaussee de Waterloo)
This is a bigger lamp shop which sells expensive and very trendy lamps. If you need several of the same things or you are looking for lamps for your posh Uccleoise apartment, this is your place! Reliable and has a huge selection but pricey and the service is not half as good as in the second hand shop off Flagey.

Le Vistemboir (Second hand lamp shop)
This tiny shop is in a street close to Place Flagey and is owned by a true lamp-enthusiast. He sells a whole range of very different lamps, small ones, big ones, modern ones, strange looking ones, standing ones, hanging ones, colourful and conservative looking ones. Definitely one of the treasure shops we discovered over the time of the renovation. The owner also repairs old lamps and is very friendly.

Novia dueBathroom stuff, handles, door-knobs, metal plaques etc.
This shop on the upper end of Chaussee de Waterloo, right next to the forest is one of those targeting the fancy people of its own neighbourhood. We bought some handles here for our dressing and a metal plaque with our names on it for the parle-au-phone. This shop is also overpriced, slow in delivering what you’ve ordered and has almost nothing on stock. We picked a few different things and the owner had a long list of excuses why he couldn’t serve us- “this company has gone bankrupt”, “we don’t sell this product anymore”, “you have to order that and it takes x weeks”.

Xtrente8: we bought our curtains here. They have a big selection of fabrics, some other decoration items and they also do some carpentry (for example changing the fabric on armchairs). Both the owner and her colleague have been very helpful, patient and had good suggestions, it was a pleasure to spend time in this shop. Quite expensive though.
